We’re Catherine & Bryan Williamson, a husband & wife design team with a passion for interior design, renovation, and old homes. This blog is where we share our renovation progress, updates on life & entrepreneurship, and experience as Airbnb hosts.
Our journey started in 2012, when we decided to make a big move from New York to Columbus. We knew that renting an expensive small apartment and dealing with crowded subways everyday was not going to work forever. We wanted to start creating something for ourselves, and although we didn’t know exactly what that something was, we knew NYC wasn’t the place for it. We decided on Columbus because Bryan grew up here, and we were intrigued by all of the development going on in the downtown area at the time. We drove through many of the neighborhoods and admired the boarded up old houses, most of which were built in the early 1900s, and started dreaming about the things we could do here.
We purchased our first home when we moved, which was a single family home built in 1920 that had been remodeled in the 90s. We started the blog to share our progress with friends and family, and named it Beginning in the Middle because we wanted it to reflect our new adventure in the Midwest. We got our hands dirty with lots of small home improvement projects, and through that process realized our mutual passion for design.
Since we finished that first home, we’ve designed & renovated more than a dozen properties in the Columbus area, became Airbnb hosts, started an interior design studio called Mix Design Collective and have taken the leap into full-time entrepreneurship. Our work has been on Design*Sponge, Houzz, Apartment Therapy, and House Beautiful, to name a few. We look forward to continuing to grow and having you along for the ride!
