One Room Challenge Week 7: Cutting it Close!

White Cape Cottage

New to BITM? Welcome! We’re Catherine and Bryan Williamson, husband & wife business owners, interior designers, renovators and Airbnb Superhosts based in Columbus, OH.  We’ve renovated over a dozen houses since moving to Columbus, and are currently in the middle of upgrading my parents’ new (old) home.  It’s a 1950’s cape cod that we’ve dubbed White Cape Cottage.  We’re looking forward to having you along for the ride these next few weeks as we tackle the One Room Challenge. Make sure you’re following us on Instagram and subscribed to our email list for the latest updates on our progress!

Catch up on Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4 and Week 5/6.

Phew, we are cutting it close on finishing this renovation in time for next Wednesday’s reveal!

We had our mood boards all ready to post today, and just received word last night that some of our furniture may or may not make it in time. Ahhhh! Being in the middle of a global pandemic has certainly had its challenges, but our sponsors have been wonderful to work with.  All that to say, we want to share our plans with you even though some of them might change.

The bed: Apt2B is providing the stunning and it’s going to be so perfect in this room! Loving that it’s modern and traditional (the curve!), and it *should* fit nicely under the windows without blocking them.

Rugs: We’re working with Loloi on our rug for the bedroom space in the suite.  We’re currently choosing between these options, both from the Revere collection.  The one on the left would give the room a really neutral feel, and the one on the right would play off of some of the rust tones in the floral fabric we’re using for the bench (keep reading). Which would you choose?

Fabric: We’re sourcing fabric from Fabricut for our storage bench and a few Roman shades.  They were able to ship us samples overnight and have been FANTASTIC to work with! We’re leaning toward this Celestial fabric for the seat of the bench, and a few other coordinating patterns to compliment it.

Art: We’ll be incorporating a few old pieces and a few new pieces. We recently discovered Amy Lauren and fell in love with her work!  We purchased this piece and can’t wait to see it in the space.

Lighting: Hudson Valley Lighting and Troy Lighting are providing two La Brea lamps for the nightstands, a Girard floor lamp for our reading nook, and a Garfield desk lamp.  They’re one of our favorite lighting companies (we worked with them on our own home, too) and can’t wait until these arrive!

Furniture & decor: Overstock is providing furniture, decor and cozy blankets for the reading nook, desk area and a dresser for the bedroom to round out the space.  We can’t wait to get it all set up!

Here are a few progress photos of where we’re at.  Here’s where you enter the main area of the suite.  Before…

During…

Progress! Adding the archways makes the bathroom/closet area feel more defined, and the ceiling lines feel less awkward.

We’ve been working hard on getting the bathroom floor tiled. (PS how cute is this photo of these two… right before little B started stepping in the tile adhesive – ha!)

And last… the insane difference in the bedroom after drywall has gone up!

We are posting updates daily on Instagram, so make sure to follow along!  It’s going to be a BIG WEEK!!

Have you seen the other featured designers’ progress?  Check it all out here!

I grew up in New Jersey and always had a dream of living in New York.  There was something about the energy of the city that drew me inOur journey started unexpectedly in 2012, when we decided to make a big move from New York to Columbus. The glamour of climbing the corporate ladder was wearing off, and we knew that renting an expensive small apartment and dealing with crowded subways everyday was not going to work forever. We wanted to start creating something for ourselves, and although we didn’t know exactly what that something was, we knew NYC wasn’t the place for it.

We decided on Columbus because Bryan grew up here, and we were intrigued by all of the development going on in the downtown area at the time. We drove through many of the neighborhoods and admired the boarded up old houses, most of which were built in the early 1900s, and started dreaming about the things we could do here.

I'm Catherine, and I'm the founder of Beginning in the Middle.
