Before & After: #pearlgoesmodern Guest Suite

Pearl St.

10 Jan

This post is sponsored by Lowe’s.

Remember when we DIY’d a channel tufted bed for our new Airbnb’s guest suite a few weeks ago?

Well folks, the rest of the bedroom is F I N I S H E D and we’re so excited to share it all with you. Let’s get into it.

BEFORE

THIS.  This is where we started.  Believe it or not, the bedroom we’re about to show you used to be a bathroom.  We snapped these photos when we first walked the property almost 5 (!) years ago.

After we bought it, we gutted it and opened up the wall to create one open space.  The bulk of the slope was cut off in the former bathroom — the plumbing pipes are where the wall used to be.

Opening up the wall created a TON more usable space, and allowed us to completely change the layout up here from one bathroom into a small suite with a bedroom AND bathroom.

AFTER

Here’s what the former dingy bathroom looks like now.

bed // plant basket // faux olive tree // rug // velvet pillow // velvet curtains // plug-in sconces // mattress

We knew we wanted to go more moody in this room, but not TOO moody where our Airbnb guests would feel uncomfortable.  We balanced lighter flooring, bedding and rug with more saturated walls and curtains.  We wanted the bed in this space to feel luxe, and made it out of velvet curtains, memory foam, and oak (you can find all the deets here).  It feels so, so cozy in here!

pink pillow // sconces // headboard

The curtains and headboard are made from the same velvet curtains, which are almost the same color as the wall.  Tone on tone is the name of the game in here.

We added more texture with pillows and bedding.

The tree we used is a 7′ faux olive tree, and looks great in real life.  We wanted to do something different than the oh-so-popular fiddle leaf fig tree, and this one fit the bill!  It’s slim and doesn’t overpower the room.

Let’s talk about this rug for a minute.  It’s an 8″ x 10″ hand tufted wool rug, and is heavy and soft and really great quality.  I can’t say enough good things! We almost kept it for ourselves 😉

The sconces are gorgeous and put off really good light.  They’re plug-in, so we didn’t need to spend money running wires during construction.  I love the way it looks at night.

It’s kind of hard to believe that this…

Now looks like this.  We aren’t quite finished with the bathroom yet — it’ll all be glassed in and we have some paint touch ups to do, but it’s looking pretty darn great!

Bryan added some shelves where we’ll keep towels, extra throw blanks, etc. for guests.

Here’s another before shot…

And after.  The tall ceilings are cut off in the previous photos, but they’re about 12′ tall.  It helps the room feel more spacious and dramatic, even though it’s small.  We’re working on painting some canvas art for the wall behind the door that we’ll install in the next few weeks.

Here’s another fun evolution, from bathroom to gutted space to bedroom!

DEcor from lowe’s

This is the first time we’ve went dark in a bedroom, let alone a small bedroom.  We’re so happy we took the chance!  We painted the room SW Studio Clay, which we had color matched at Lowe’s.  It’s the prettiest taupe and feels refreshing and earthy and calming.  It’s perfect for this bedroom!  We found velvet curtains that are super similar in tone to the wall color and made our velvet headboard out of those, too.  We went with matte black as our main metal, and love the way it looks against the wall color.  The Moroccan rug is one of my favorite finds for this room, hands down.  It looks so pretty against our floors, which we have running throughout the house, and really elevates the whole room.  A good faux tree is something we almost always put in our homes.  The one we chose is 84″ tall and slim, so it doesn’t take over.  We found other fun pillows and throws on Lowes.com that helped add more layers and texture.  We can’t wait to welcome guests here in a few weeks!!

Floors // pink loop pillow // chevron throw // taupe velvet pillow // luggage rack // faux olive tree // gray basket // Moroccan rug // matte black curtain rod // matte black wall sconce // velvet curtains

We’ll be back Monday to reveal the master.  Can. Not. Wait.

One of our favorite things about being @airbnb hos One of our favorite things about being @airbnb hosts is sharing our spaces with so many wonderful people from near and far. Whether it’s grandparents meeting their grandchildren for the first time, friends reuniting, someone needing medical treatment at a nearby hospital, or a couple escaping for a romantic weekend getaway, it’s incredibly humbling knowing that the homes we’ve put our hearts into are playing a small part in our guests’ stories. #airbnbpartner

Little did we know that it would evolve into our full-time career and passion! With four rental homes and a new historic guesthouse in the works, we’re so thankful that hosting has allowed us to grow our business, achieve financial freedom, and spend more time together as a family. #airbnbpartner
WE BOUGHT A B&B! 🎉 Bryan and I have been dream WE BOUGHT A B&B! 🎉

Bryan and I have been dreaming about doing a boutique hotel/guesthouse for years. Well friends, the stars aligned in late 2020 and we had an opportunity to make our dream a reality. We are SO EXCITED to be the new owners of the Harrison House, an 1890 Victorian B&B in Columbus.

The property has a 30 year history of being a B&B, and the previous owner lovingly owned & operated it for the last 15. It was last remodeled in the 1980s and has its fair share of quirks (read: we can't wait to get to work!) This will be the largest scale project we've tackled to date, but we're feeling the creative energy and good vibes more than ever.

Stay tuned for a video before tour and a peek at our design plans coming soon. So thankful to have you guys along for the ride on this one... it's going to be an adventure!
